Guatemala Internet Service by: Wolf Sebring
Guatemala internet service is just as advanced as any other country in Central America. Antigua is a popular place for tourists and there are internet cafes for guest access. Internet cafes are popular places in most overseas and tourist locations because for a very small fee you can sit at a computer with high-speed internet access and check your mail back home, access a web site to book a tour in Guatemala, check the news back home, or even talk on the phone with the appropriate headset and software. Before loading any software on the cafe's computer, make sure it is cleared with the owner or overseer of the establishment. If you take your own laptop with you on your trip, you might want to ask the owner of the cafe if you can just use the network connection but pay the normal fee. Many are pleased to accommodate. Hotels that you stay in more and more have internet access or have it close by. Take for instance, the Aurora Hotel in Antigua. It has an internet cafe close by. The Holiday in Guatemala City has in-room wireless internet access for an initial $10 fee or one can access high-speed internet in the Holiday Inn business center for an initial fee of $5. In fact, Internet service seems to be very strong especially in the capital city. Doing a search on Internet cafes on Google returns quite a few. There are many local Internet service providers here as well. If you have a service that provides global internet roaming capabilities, you will need to check with your provider to see which ISP it is contracted with in Guatemala. You will need a roaming wireless card but you probably already knew that. It appears that America Online provides global roaming in coordination with the Guatemala internet service. |
